Hey guys, and welcome to my 1 current event blog post in 7th grade! This is going to be exiting because I am going to teach you about something really interesting. Something called.....wait for it........................PANDA POOP!!! We all thought its just normal panda poop but actually its much more then that! So read on and learn about panda poop! Enjoy! :)

What do you think of when you think of a panda? A cute black and white bear from China who eats bamboo? Scientists from Mississippi State University are interested in more than just that; they are interested in what comes out of them: Their poop. Ashli Brown is a biochemist at the university and she predicts that panda poop might lead us to a new way of turning grasses into fuel. Plants such as grass absorb energy from the sunshine and scientists like Ashli are trying to use that absorbing energy. At a meeting Ms. Brown presented her research showing how panda poop could inspire a new way to gain energy form plants! Plants are a renewable energy source which means that we can produce more of it. When we use plants as an energy source that is called biomass. Most of the energies that we use come from nonrenewable resources called fossil fuels which are very bad for the environment. Fossil fuels include oil, coal and natural gasses. They come from fossils- which are the remains of organisms that lived long ago. They are nonrenewable because once they are gone we can’t produce more of them.  Burning biomass is one way to capture energy but scientists are struggling to find another way. Brown thinks and hopes that panda waste can teach scientists something about breaking down biomass. The microbes in the panda’s stomach are very good for sucking the energy out of bamboo- their food. Unlike cows who have 4 chambers to digest large amount of food pandas have only one.  Once the panda eats the bamboo ti goes into the stomach and then what is not needed is excreted. Brown says that she wants to use poop to break down another kind: biomass. Now the scientists are taking the next step and figuring out how the microbes work. Brown’s team is hoping to identify the chemicals that help with the process of breaking down biomass. If those chemicals can be made in the laboratory, they could be used to convert biomass like grass or other plants into fuel.  So, as you can see there is a lot more in simple panda poop.  In my opinion panda poop can lead us into the…………….FUTURE!!!

What do I want to learn this year???

Hey everyone and welcome to my 3 blog post this year! Today I am going to write about what I would love to learn this year. So here I come. This year I would really love to learn more about bacteria. Different kinds of it, how it effects us and how it forms. I would also love to learn more about the living and non-living things. I mean to say I would like to discuss more about the cycle of life, the needs of living and non-living things and of course how or what they are made up of. One thing that really, really interests me is the cycle of life. I have a few questions listed below that I would like to know about the cycle of life for both living and non-living things-

  • Do non-living things have a cycle of life?
  • Why is the human cycle of life different from animals or plants?
  • Do all cycles of life have the same needs?
  • What is the difference between the animal, human and plant cycle of life?

In conclusion I would love to learn about all thins things and I hope that I will by the end of this year o that I can answer all my questions and of course gain lots of extra knowledgeable!!! Have fun and I'll see you soon! XOXO

My Scientific Summer!!!

Hey everyone! This is my 2nd blog post for the year of 2011 but I am exited to tell you about my summer in a scientific way! Hope you enjoy, an of course learn something new!! Thanks! :)

This summer I spent about 36 hours (in total) on the airplane flying to/from places. My favorite trip was going to France, Paris where I went to a summer camp. It was a french summer camp which I went to, to learn french. However it was a bit though on me but know I see that it was great experience! I traveled to and back with an airplane. It was a 2 hour flight (well 1 45 hour flight if we are exact.)

Every object on Earth has weight, a product of both gravity and mass. Weight's opposing force is lift, which holds an airplane up in the air. This is accomplished through the use of an airplanes wing. The wing splits the airflow in two directions: up and over the wing and down along the underside of the wing.
The wing is shaped and tilted so n moving air flows over an object and encounters an obstacle (something like a bump), its path narrows and the flow speeds up as all the molecules rush though. Once past the obstacle, the path widens and the flow slows down again. Remove the pressure and the water flow returns to its previous state. As air speeds up, its pressure drops. So the faster-moving air moving over the wing gets less pressure on it than the slower air moving underneath the wing. The result is an upward push of lift.

In conclusion know that you know what it takes to get the airplane to fly normally, I think you will need to think twice before going on it again! Anyway I hope that you liked my blog post and I'll see you soon!!!!

Grade 7 Science Introduction

I’m back!!!!!!! Summer is over and I am ready for a new school year! The only difference is that I am in 7th grade now! I had a really exiting summer and know I am really excited to start a new science year! A few of my goals in science this year are:
•To learn the periodic table of elements
•Learn about biology and ecology.....

.....and many more!!! In conclusion I am ready for a hard new year, to study and learn new things. See you soon!!!
